This is a stamp tray used for carefully presenting money envelopes, crafted by Tamashima Miki, a Maki-e artist of the Taisho Era, based on the sketch of a bell cricket by Issei Domoto. The bell cricket holds high status in Japan. Buddhists in the Kegonji Temple in Kyoto raise thousands of bell crickets in bamboo cages so they can meditate on the beautiful ringing sound they make through their wings. Due to the rarity of bell crickets, they are also a symbol of true love and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in Japanese literature.

The tray comes in the original signed wooden box.
